As soon as I saw  THE RAVEN HEIR by Stephanie Burgis, I couldn’t wait to feature it. I’m happy to report that the book is now released and out in the world:

Deep within an enchanted forest lies a castle where a set of triplets and their sorceress mother have lived for years — safe from the decades-long war for the Raven Throne that rages in the kingdom beyond. Cordelia, one of the triplets, has the power to become any animal with just a thought, and she yearns to discover more about the world outside her castle.

But one day, the world comes to her, when the eldest of the triplets becomes the newest heir to the throne. Knowing that being named heir means certain death, Cordelia’s mother hid the truth about which child is the eldest when she hid them in the forest. When her family is captured, it’s up to Cordelia to use her powers to keep her siblings hidden and discover the truth about the Raven Heir — before it’s too late.

What do you like most about living in Wales?

I love, love, love living surrounded by so many castles and mountains. It truly is the most beautiful place I’ve ever lived! And The Raven Heir was inspired by some of the rich history that surrounds me – it was all first sparked when I found out about the role my favorite local castle had played in the brutal Wars of the Roses.

Fascinating! THE RAVEN HEIR also features a character, Cordelia, who is a shape-shifter. What do you hope readers take away from Cordelia’s adventures with her siblings?

I hope they’ll have a lot of fun escaping into the triplets’ adventures – and also come out feeling empowered to take on some of their own biggest challenges.

The best books are ones that empower readers! You also have an adult fantasy, SCALES AND SENSIBILITY coming out on October 4. How did you know that you wanted to write a story with Regency-era dragons?

I’ve always adored dragons, and I’ve been obsessed with the Regency era ever since I first fell in love with Jane Austen’s books at a ridiculously young age. This new trilogy for adults is my chance to combine those two passions (and explore a VERY different take on dragons than the gorgeous big fire-breathers I wrote about in the MG trilogy that started with The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart! Aventurine from TDwaCH would be horrified by tiny Sir Jessamyn Carnavoran Artos in Scales and Sensibility, but I love him, and I hope that my readers will, too).

I’m sure we will! What are some of your current projects?

Right now I’m in the middle of editing the sequel to The Raven Heir. It’s called The Raven Throne, and it’s full of magic and adventure and mysteries. I’m also partway into the first draft of Claws and Contrivances, the sequel to Scales and Sensibility!
